Background of the Study
The proliferation of fake news has emerged as a significant challenge to democratic processes worldwide, with Nigeria being no exception. In the context of elections, fake news has the potential to shape voter behavior, influence electoral outcomes, and erode trust in the political system. Fake news refers to false or misleading information presented as fact, often disseminated through social media, traditional media, and word of mouth. In Nigeria, fake news during elections has been linked to the spread of disinformation about candidates, political parties, and the electoral process, contributing to confusion and manipulation among voters (Bolarinwa & Lawal, 2023).
In Ganye LGA, Adamawa State, the impact of fake news on electoral processes has become a growing concern. The widespread use of social media platforms, where misinformation can spread rapidly, has compounded the challenge. Fake news campaigns targeting specific candidates, ethnic groups, and political ideologies can sway public opinion, causing voters to make decisions based on falsehoods rather than factual information. This undermines the integrity of the electoral process and may lead to violence, voter manipulation, and a loss of faith in democratic institutions (Abdullahi, 2024).
This study seeks to investigate the effects of fake news on electoral processes in Ganye LGA, Adamawa State. By examining how fake news influences voter decisions, the research will provide insights into the role of misinformation in shaping election outcomes and its potential to disrupt the democratic process.

This study will address this gap by examining how fake news has influenced voting behavior, electoral credibility, and overall political stability in Ganye LGA (Mohammed & Alhassan, 2025).
